A design engineer always looks for the most optimised reinforcement design for a designated structure, which complies with the rules of the building codes. With the DIANA design tools, this can be easily accomplished as it was explained in the previous e-learning: “The design of concrete slabs according to Eurocode 2 and a Full Nonlinear approach based on DIANA design tools”.
In this e-learning session, we will show you how to enhance your design by using the nonlinear analysis tools of DIANA to optimise the cost and safety of your projects. While other programs are limited to a linear approach, DIANA can be used to see the actual physical behaviour and assess the capacity with an extended full nonlinear approach. Arching and membrane action are clear examples of a nonlinear phenomenon that cannot be taken into account in a linear analysis. Therefore, a nonlinear analysis is strongly recommended in order to understand the behaviour and optimise the design of your slab in the most optimal way in terms of safety and cost.
This e-learning session will explain what arching and membrane action are, how it will influence the behaviour of your reinforced concrete structure, and how to cope with this in your reinforced concrete design.
