Constitutive models for reinforced concrete: challenges and proposals for future research

Author
E. Fehling & T. Bullo (Department of Structural Concrete, University of Kassel, Germany)

A concise state-of-the art review of the constitutive models formulated in the past using the concept of classical local macro-continuum mechanics and used for the finite element analysis of reinforced concrete structures is presented. The complex composite material behaviour of reinforced concrete under different loading conditions is discussed. A direction for future research and some suggestions on the techniques that may be applied to improve the existing models are highlighted.
