Numerical analysis of fracture in concrete subjected to tension by means of a 3D lattice type fracture model has revealed a significant effect of the particle density on the tensile strength and the post-peak behaviour. It was found that with increasing particle density the peak-load decreases whereas the ductility increases. Experiments conducted on synthetic concrete specimens confirm the outcome from numerical simulations.
