Shell Exploration and Production BV requested to perform a 3-dimensional geo-mechanical analysis in order to predict surface subsidence, reservoir compaction and fault-slipping as result of gas depletion. A detailed finite element model was defined of circa 500.000 elements.
Slipping faults were modeled with frictional interface behavior. Nonlinear rock behavior was described with DIANA’s Modified Mohr Coulomb model. The FE mesh was defined in the horizon and fault surfaces provided from geological modelers. Analysis were performed in Geomec/DIANA. The pictures underneath show the geological structure (left-hand) and the calculated compaction of the rock (right-hand).
