Analysis of a Riser Clamp

The Nederlandse Aardolie Maatschappy (NAM) requested to perform an ultimate strength analysis of a baseplate/anchor plate of a riser clamp for the situation that 1 of the 4 corner bolts had been broken. A finite element model consisting of solid elements in the critical places and shell elements at the other locations was defined. Frictional interfacing with the underground was assumed using special interface elements in DIANA. A geometrical and physical nonlinear analysis with hardening plastic steel behavior was performed and the plastic deformations at the ultimate loading were calculated.
