Technical Webinar: Life beyond shear tension crack development? Nonlinear assessment of 50’s bridge

The Amsterdamsebrug dates from the 50’s. The concrete approach bridges consist of post-tensioned T-girders, combined to monolithic sections of 5-7 spans. A quick scan of the strength indicated shear tension as governing failure mechanism. A nonlinear assessment was carried out to further investigate the response to the decisive load configuration. The webinar focuses on this assessment, aims to be an example of practical application of DIANA and covers modelling approach, modelling choices and results.

This webinar will be presented by Coen van der Vliet. Before working as ‘specialist civil structures’ at Arcadis (2006-present), Coen worked as ‘modelling engineer’ at the Dutch Ministry of Transport (1997-2006). As young engineer he discovered the magic of advanced FEA: exploring its power and understanding its pitfalls. Since then, application of FEA to understand structural behavior and to explore hidden margins has been the main theme in his career.
